Outer space is a realm of infinite scalability. Is space quantifiable? Any attribution of sovereignty turned claim to nationhood seems inherently predisposed to a terrestrial plane of reality. When human civilization expands to the stars, would it not be reasonable to suggest that man’s conception of sovereignty evolve into something greater than another competing nationalism?
The argument can be made that a logical correlation exists when following the advanced trajectories of nationalism and militarism. Where nationalism is ambitiously postured, there is expansionism backed by hard military power. Is this to suggest threats of nuclear war made under the premise of mutually assured destruction are inevitable?
When challenged from the perspective of quantum randomness, our conception of finitude is thrown into a vast vortex of infinite possibility. Can ephemerally terrestrial ideals like sovereignty and nationhood preserve their shared relevance when scaled to that of a galactic project?
Where there is perception of metaphysical scalability, there is expectation of quantifiability. A quantity cannot exist without finite boundaries that deny the infinite. This is true in the sense that what is infinite is undefinable with no true quantity, much like the value of zero.
The question is, how do concepts like sovereignty and civilization reconcile with states of reality like infinitude where there is a clear beginning, but no definitive ending? It is here where the future remains nothing more than speculative in nature.
It must therefore be asked, how will such a state of reality challenge the legitimacy of terrestrially inspired expansionism made in the name of some conception of nationhood?
Thus, in outer space, traditional Machiavellian borders become virtually meaningless while lacking any true existential grounding. They melt away as ephemeral aberrations never again remembered as anything beyond blips on the cosmic radar. Outer space is a realm for civilization. Not tribal nations.
